The Comptroller's Office is most often associated with the State's fiscal matters. Comptroller’s Critters was created by the late, great pet-loving Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka and carried on in her honor by Comptroller Mendoza. The program aims to find shelter dogs, cats and other animals forever homes and features a searchable database of facilities in your area. As prescribed by the Freedom of Information Act [5 ILCS 140/1] the Office of Comptroller makes available to any person for inspection or copying all non-exempt, public records. Any written Freedom of Information request is promptly responded to, indicating compliance or denial to the request within 5 working days. In certain circumstances, the Office of Comptroller may take up to an additional 5 working days to collect and prepare public records. Responses to requests made for a commercial purpose, however, may take up to 21 days or longer.
