Comptroller Mendoza continues video series with a look at Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood

We’re supposed to break into the 60s in Chicago today. How about a trip to Chicago’s historic Hyde Park neighborhood?

In her latest tourism video, Comptroller Mendoza joins WCPT 820 AM Radio Host Richard Chew for a tour of Chicago’s Hyde Park.

Stops include Valois Restaurant, where you can order one of President Obama’s favorite menu items, 57th Street Books, Roux, Medici on 57th, Kilwin’s, Cinco Rabanitos, the Bond Chapel and the county’s oldest, independent African American History Museum – the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center. Comptroller Mendoza launched Black Heritage Month by handing a $557,996.73 check to DuSable.

“I love recording these videos and showing the public what Illinois is all about – unique experiences, vibrant neighborhoods and fascinating people,” said Comptroller Mendoza. “My goal is to increase excitement about places that may not be traditionally thought of as tourist destinations.”

The video also features special guest stars former Senator and Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun and Western Illinois farmer Dick Bigger Jr.

Other highlights in the tour are Ja’ Grill, the University of Chicago, the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry, Chant Restaurant and the Seminary Co-op Bookstore.

“Helping generate revenue for these businesses is good for the local and state economy, which increases revenues that help me pay the state’s bills,” said Comptroller Mendoza.

In other videos, podcasts and reels, Comptroller Mendoza has taken viewers on a tour of shops, restaurants and attractions in Little Village, Asia on Argyle, Chinatown, the Southeast Side of Chicago, Southern Illinois, Morton, the Du Quoin State Fair, the Illinois State Fair, and more. You can find all these videos on the Comptroller’s YouTube channel. In previous years, Comptroller Mendoza highlighted Galesburg, Springfield, Kaskaskia and Vandalia, among others.
