COMPTROLLER MENDOZA PRAISES SUPREME COURT'S RULING FOR DREAMERS

Thursday, June 18, 2020

CHICAGO – Illinois State Comptroller Susana A. Mendoza released the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling blocking the Trump administration’s efforts to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA:

“Thank you to Supreme Court Justices John Roberts, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Stephen Breyer for standing on the right side of history by ruling against President Trump and standing up for the Dreamers. The DACA program shields qualified young immigrants who were brought to the United States by their parents as children and work alongside us, fight for our country in the military, and pay taxes, from being deported. In Illinois, these young men and women contribute to our economy, have served ably in state government, including in the Illinois Office of Comptroller, and deserve a chance at the American dream. Our country and our state are better off for having them here. This has been a big week for the Supreme Court voting against discrimination by Donald Trump.”
