COMPTROLLER MENDOZA PRAISES PASSAGE OF BUDGET

SPRINGFIELD, IL — “Thank you to the bipartisan coalition of lawmakers who came together to pass a state budget. It will take years for our state to fully recover from the devastating consequences of the two-year budget impasse, but putting a complete budget in place for Fiscal Year 2019 is another step in the right direction. Our Debt Transparency Act gave legislators and taxpayers the numbers they needed to craft this consensus budget with a clear picture of the state’s backlog of bills. That backlog as of today stands at $6.6 billion. It will take a long time to reduce that. We can’t breathe easy yet, but having this stability and predictability will at least allow us to breathe. I urge the Governor to sign the budget, so Illinois can continue on the path toward recovery.”
