COMPTROLLER MENDOZA COMMENDS GENERAL ASSEMBLY'S BI-PARTISAN WORK TO PASS BUDGET AND CAPITAL BILLS

June 2, 2019

One thing we've learned in recent years is that an imperfect budget beats no budget at all. I commend legislators from both parties who worked together with the governor to craft a spending plan that meets everyone’s priorities. I stand ready to work with the legislature and the governor's office to ensure the state continues to meet its obligations. We must keep in mind the state's backlog of bills still stands at $6.3 billion as of today and the harder we work to pay that down, the sooner we can improve the state's credit rating. This budget puts us on a path to recovery and gives my office some tools to continue addressing the backlog of bills.”
