WILL YOU FOSTER THIS AWESOME GIRL FOR LIFE? Moona is a sweet girl who had a hard start in life. She came to us from another shelter who was running out of space. She was shut down and so very frightened of life. Then came a most wonderful foster family who gave beautiful Moona the time and patience she needed to come out of her shell. She flourished with their help and especially the help of their resident dog. T

he time was coming for Moona to be put up for adoption and given the chance to start life in a home of her own. She was about to be spayed when the doctors found that Moona has Cardiomyopathy.

Cardiomyopathy is a disease/condition that prevents the heart from functioning properly. It is defined as degeneration of the heart muscle. As a result of this degeneration, the muscle becomes thinner, particularly the thick muscle wall of the left ventricle. The pressure of the blood inside the heart causes these thin walls to stretch resulting in a much larger heart. When caught early, it can respond well to medical management, but there is no surgery to correct cardiomyopathy and these dogs may not have the life expectancy as other dogs.

Unfortunately, there are no guarantees in medicine. DCM is a serious disease that must be accurately diagnosed and aggressively treated. Some dogs with DCM do well with treatment for a period; however, some dogs will never resume a normal lifestyle. Moona is on two different medications daily. One lowers the pressure in her arteries and veins and improves the heart muscle strength. The other medication stimulates the kidneys to remove excess fluid from the body. Moona is doing very well on them and will continue to take them for the rest of her life. Moona does not act ill. She has blossomed since being in her foster home and she runs around just like other dogs. Once a terrified dog who was afraid of everything, Moona has shown us what resiliency is all about and now this girl needs to have a family of her own.

Because of her ongoing medications, we are looking for a family who will foster Moona permanently. In doing so, P.A.W.S. will be able to pay for all the medications and vet visits she will need now and in the future. Moona’s care will be managed by our veterinarian so we would like to keep Moona within a reasonable distance from P.A.W.S.

If you have it in your heart to give Moona the life she deserves, please complete an application which can be found on our website.
