The statement from today is as follows:

“The news of two police officers being shot in Kankakee County while on duty late Wednesday is heartbreaking. My prayers go out to the family of Sergeant Marlene Rittmanic, killed in the line of duty. My family and I will be praying for the other officer who remains in critical condition. Once again, Illinoisans are mourning the tragic death of an officer harmed while performing their critical public-service role.
