SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Comptroller Susana A. Mendoza on Wednesday released a video smashing the myth that Illinois’ spectacular financial recovery was created by the federal stimulus funds.
This was one of the points Comptroller Mendoza focused on Wednesday in her address to the City Club of Chicago regarding Illinois’ financial recovery.
“On April 28, 2021, more than a year ago, I had paid down the backlog of bills to $3.5 billion, shrunk the bill-payment cycle to 15 days, and I wrote the credit rating agencies asking for our first upgrade,” Comptroller Mendoza explains in the video, ticking off all the milestones on Illinois’ road to recovery. “All of that happened before the federal stimulus finally got here on July 22, 2021.”
