About PAWS Chicago
PAWS Chicago (Pets Are Worth Saving) is a national model in No Kill animal sheltering, committed to bringing an end to the killing of homeless cats and dogs. As Chicagoland’s largest No Kill shelter, and one of the largest in the nation, PAWS has helped to reduce the number of homeless pets killed in the city by more than 80 percent since its founding in 1997. In just 20 years, PAWS Chicago has grown from a grassroots organization to a national leader in the No Kill movement, guiding other communities in how to dramatically reduce the euthanasia of homeless cats and dogs.
In 2016, PAWS Chicago found homes for 5,125 dogs and cats through its Lincoln Park and Highland Park Adoption Centers and performed 17,236 spay and neuter surgeries through its Lurie Clinic and GusMobile Spay/Neuter Van. These two medical resources give PAWS Chicago the ability to provide subsidized spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations and humane education to under-resourced families and neighborhoods that need the most help in controlling pet population.
Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest independent evaluator, has rated PAWS Chicago at its highest 4-star ranking for 15 consecutive years—an accomplishment that less than 1% of the charities in the nation have reached.

Say hello to the most fabulous cat you may ever meet, Sunflower! This adorable feline is super friendly and absolutely loves to play with any and every kind of toy she can get her paws on! She was originally adopted from PAWS as a young kitten and returned to us after spending a little over a year in the home when her owner realized she did not have enough time to care for her. It took sweet Sunflower a bit of time to adjust to life in a shelter environment, but with lots of patience and tons of love, Sunflower has truly blossomed into an extremely lovable girl.
Ready for your heart to melt completely? It certainly will the moment you see Lillith! Lillith is a complete sweetheart and has a heart of gold. She has the most gorgeous coat and eyes that make you just want to hug and kiss her all day long! She came to PAWS after spending eight years in her previous home, which has left her understandably sad, but she is very hopeful that her new family will come fall in love with her soon! Lillith adores receiving kisses right on the top of her head and has a soft spot for belly rubs. She enjoys kicking back and relaxing and is just one big lap dog who wants nothing more than to be loved on all day long!
Meet Catalonia! Catalonia is a beautiful 4-year-old Retriever mix with a gorgeous red-golden coat and striking eyes that are completely irresistible! She is an incredibly smart and active girl who craves physical activity such as going for long walks, a mile-long job, or even playing with toys. Her favorite toys in the world are stuffed squeaky toys! She can't get enough of them! Catalonia even has her very own collection in her room here at PAWS to prove it.
Can you say gorgeous?! Karl is one stunning boy who is hoping his good looks and wonderful personality are enough to score him the perfect forever home! This cutie pie was found as a stray and brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control by the police officer who found him. PAWS saw his potential for greatness and brought this sweet boy into our loving care in the hopes that he would have a chance at finding a loving family that would cherish him forever. He was adopted into a home and brought back after 3 months when the family realized he was not a good fit for their household.
Bonjour! Meet Pierre, a mature gentleman who would love to find a quiet, relaxing home where he can spend his golden years. Looking for someone to keep your lap warm? You’re in luck, because he absolutely love to sit on laps and snuggle with his human companions! His favorite activities also include lounging and playing with wand toys, and using his scratching post like a champ. Pierre has been diagnosed with diabetes, and requires insulin injections twice daily after mealtime.
Max is a 9 month old Labrador Retriever puppy with boundless energy looking for the perfect forever home. Max would do best in an adults-only home with an owner who has experience with her breed. She is a sweet and happy girl who loves nothing more than to play fetch with a nice yellow tennis ball and eat all the stinky treats her stomach can handle!
