Anderson Animal Shelter has been saving lives and serving the Fox Valley region for more than 50 years. The shelter was incorporated in 1966 as the Humane Society of North Central Illinois. In 1971, our current shelter opened its doors on five acres of land along Route 31 in South Elgin, IL. In the 1980s, a generous donation from the Ivar and Ruth Anderson Anti Cruelty Trust prompted a name change to Anderson Animal Shelter.
Anderson receives no federal and state funding. We rely on and appreciate the generosity of our adopters, staff, volunteers, foster caregivers, community members and businesses to support our life-saving mission.

Ruby: This sweet one year old Hound mix needs a forever home. She is quite active so a home with a large yard or someone who enjoys taking their dog jogging, would be a good match. Ruby enjoys both people and other dogs. If you are in the market for fun loving addition to the family, then Ruby may be your gal.
Glinda: Glinda is gorgeous! With her soft green eyes, very unique dilute calico markings and super fluffy tail, this 1-year-old girl definitely turns heads and wins your heart. Glinda also has an independent spirit, and she’s learning to build her sense of trust and become more accepting of your kindness. She readily comes out of her kitty condo to explore the adoption room floor, roll around (looking cute as can be, of course), and prance with confidence! She may rub up against your legs and will accept head rubs, though it’s best to let her tell you when she’d like your attention (it’s so tempting to want to cuddle her since she’s very pretty and fluffy!).
Twinkie: Meet Twinkie – a very handsome 5-year-old gentleman. His dilute grey-and-cream-like tabby colors are so unique! What does Twinkie want you to know about him? He thinks gentle head rubs and affection are the sweetest thing. He doesn’t demand much, except for your companionship. Twinkie is front-paw declawed and was relinquished to us because his former owner could no longer care for him. His former owner says Twinkie hasn’t been exposed to children or dogs, and when he has been around other cats, he has generally ignored them. When new people came to his former home, he was shy at first but once he knows you, he will be your very best friend!
Katniss Everdeen loves to play! This 1-year-old tabby is an active girl with a sense of feline confidence and independence. She would do well in a home where she can have regular playtime (hint, hint: string feather toys and balls are awesome!), as well as space and time to chill on her own. Katniss Everdeen may not demand cuddles or enjoy being held, though she would still like to hang out with you and be where the action is!
Milo is a handsome gentleman seeking a second chance! This 4-year-old tabby is fairly laid-back and welcomes your head rubs and affection, even if he doesn’t demand attention. In addition to his good looks (and pink nose!), you’ll notice that Milo is full-figured, so he could benefit from a home where he got regular exercise through exploring or playing -- in between his comfy cat naps! Milo was adopted as a kitten, and his family returned him due to health and behavioral reasons. Once the wife became pregnant, Milo didn’t get along as well with the family and dog.
