The state’s unprecedented fiscal challenges require a full weighing of outstanding vouchers and the ramifications of the $12 billion-plus unpaid bill backlog. House Bill 3649/Senate Bill 1652 seeks to provide a more accurate accounting of bills being held by each state agency and the late interest penalties the state is accruing.
SPRINGFIELD — Comptroller Susana Mendoza is calling on the General Assembly to immediately override Governor Bruce Rauner’s veto of the Debt Transparency Act (House Bill 3649), legislation supported by members from both political parties aimed at arming the legislature and taxpayers with more information about the state’s finances.
We encourage Illinois state representatives of both parties to listen to students, parents, teachers and school officials in their districts and vote to override Governor Rauner’s veto of equitable school funding, as state senators of both parties just did. After the House votes to override, our office can begin sending schools the General State Aid they are owed.
